Keeping your skin looking smooth, youthful and radiant can be a challenge as we get older. Fine lines, scars, and hyperpigmentation are part of the skin’s aging process but patients now have access to skin rejuvenation treatments that can counteract some of the effects of skin aging. Microneedling is an innovative treatment that involves making small punctures in the skin to trigger collagen rebuilding. The treatment is also known as collagen induction therapy because it helps the skin rebuild itself and restore collagen naturally.
Board Certified dermatologist Eric Meinhardt at California Dermatology Specialists in Brentwood, Los Angeles, offers microneedling at his practice. Microneedling treatments are performed at the office and can be spaced several weeks apart to regenerate and restore the skin.
At California Dermatology Specialists, we are excited to offer microneedling treatments for men and women looking for a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. We can enhance results of each treatment with the application of hyaluronic acid (HA), a hydrating serum that helps plump up and smooth out the skin.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling is an in-office, non-laser treatment that works below the skin’s surface. We will first numb the skin with topical anesthetic to reduce any discomfort from the needles. Next, we pass a small microneedling pen designed with a head of tiny needles over the skin. This pen moves the needles up and down very quickly as it ‘stamps’ the skin with the small needles to create small wounds. The skin responds immediately with its natural healing response and this is what triggers collagen production. The skin becomes noticeably smoother and radiant as it continues to heal and regenerate.
Microneedling is especially effective for treating the following skin concerns:
- Light to medium acne scars
- Fine lines and light wrinkles
- Age spots
- Uneven skin tone
Most patients see some results after one treatment but will need a series of treatments to enjoy the full benefit of these skin rejuvenation treatments. Microneedling can be combined with serums and other topical solutions for enhanced results.
